Jordan Academy of Dance Receives Full National
Accreditation
The Jordan Academy of Dance at Butler University has received
approval of its application for full listing from the National
Association of Schools of Dance Commission on Accreditation, making
it the only pre-professional, pre-college dance
program in Indiana - and only the second in the nation - to reach
that status.
Jordan Academy of Dance, which is part of the Butler University
Jordan College of Fine Arts, was reviewed by NASD as part of the
Department of Dance's 10-year accreditation renewal. Although the
Academy has been part of the University structure for many years,
this was the first time the Academy's programs were included in the
accreditation process.
"This achievement was accomplished by the hard work of the
faculty and staff of the Jordan Academy," said Academy of Dance
Director Larry Attaway, "with the full assistance and support of
Michelle Jarvis, chair of the Butler University Department of
Dance, and Peter Alexander, dean of the Jordan College of Fine
Arts."
The National Association of Schools of Dance was established in
1981 to develop a closer relationship among schools and programs of
dance for the purpose of examining and improving practices and
professional standards in dance education and training. NASD has
been designated by the United States Department of Education as the
agency responsible for the accreditation of all dance curricula.
The association has also been recognized by the Council on higher
Education Accreditation and is a member of the Association of
Specialized and Professional accreditors.
