Jordan College of the Arts - Event Attendance Requirements
As an essential component of arts education, all undergraduate
JCA majors (including primary, secondary and double majors and
music minors) are required to attend events in their discipline and
related areas. Double majors within JCA are required to
complete their total amount of arts attendance requirements for
primary major and one half the amount of arts requirements for
their secondary major. Each department or program establishes
minimum attendance expectations for its students. Attendance
records will be maintained in the JCA office; see Janice Thornburgh
if you have any questions.
New/Effective Fall 2012 UPDATED 3/18/2013: Students must
attend events outside the Butler community selected from
the Metro Indianapolis Specified Event
List. The student brings back the ticket stub(s) and
program(s) or other written verification of attendance to the
department head or advisor; the student obtains the department head
or advisor's signature on an Event Attendance card and returns it
to the JCA receptionist.
NEW- Get the "Jordan 8": 2 in Art, 2 in Dance, 2 in Music and 2
in Theatre!
Dean Caltabiano, Associate Dean Jarvis, Department/School Chairs
have determined to alter the policy and requirements for the Metro
Indy Arts Events. We encourage you to continue to attend
Metro Indy Arts Events throughout your time at Butler and the
Jordan College; however, it is necessary to adjust the policy as
follows. Please review the following carefully and see your
department chair if you have questions.
- Current
Seniors, Juniors and Sophomores: Metro Indy Arts Events
Attendance is no longer required. Previous Arts
Attendance requirements as defined by your department remain your
requirements and you are expected to fulfill those
requirements.
- If you completed and submitted Metro Indy Arts Events,
these events will fulfill events as required by your
department.
- Policy Change: Current new students, the class of 2016,
and incoming students beyond that date, are required to complete
eight (8) Metro Indy Arts Events prior to graduation. Two (2)
events in Art, Dance, Music and Theatre, completed in the
Indianapolis Metro area and surrounding counties, fulfills this
requirement (Current Seniors, Juniors and Sophomores are not
included).
- A broader spectrum of offerings will be determined and posted
on the website. If you have questions about a certain event
and its potential for approval, please see your department
chair.
For New Students who completed JC110: Arts Events attended
during the fall semester as required by this course will be posted
accordingly.
Notes:
- All JCA student, faculty, and guest
recitals/productions/exhibitions/lectures, along with all Clowes
Hall arts events, will satisfy attendance
requirements.
- Additionally, students must attend events outside the
Butler community selected from the attached Metro Indianapolis
Specified Event List. The student brings back the ticket
stub(s) and program(s) or other written verification of attendance
to the department head or advisor; and the student obtains the
department head's or advisor's signature on an Event Attendance
card and returns it to the JCA receptionist.
- Outside events are limited to those that are closely
related in nature to on-campus productions.
- Attendance at repeat performances of the same program will
not count.
- Students will not receive credit for performances or
exhibitions in which they participate.
To receive credit for on-campus events, obtain an Event
Attendance Card from a faculty member or Clowes Hall staff prior to
the start of the performance. Complete the card and return it
to the person in charge at the conclusion of the performance.
This Requirement will be updated through the Fall Term;
check back for the most current information. The requirements
listed below are for class of 2016 and later. For students
graduating prior to 2016, the metro-indy events do not
pertain. Please see Janice Thornberg in the JCA main office
for requirements.
