Special Interest Groups
Alliance
Its goals are to promote campus awareness and understanding of
topics and issues related to the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and
Transgender community and to provide a supportive, comfortable
atmosphere for GLBT students, faculty, staff, and straight allies
of the Butler community.
Amnesty International
Undertakes research and action focused on preventing and ending
grave abuses of the rights to physical and mental integrity,
freedom of conscience and expression, and freedom from
discrimination, within the context of its work to promote all human
rights.
Archives
Butler's entertainment magazine that features humorous and witty
writings from professors and students alike. Archives also
incorporates photography and artwork. Published every
month.
ASIA (Asian Student Intercultural
Association)
Designed to promote awareness of Asian culture, to celebrate
diversity, and to strengthen unity within the organization, campus,
and the community.
Black Student Union
Formed to help African-American students preserve, advance and
promote the social and intellectual aspects of African-American
culture. Black Student Union is open to any Butler student
interested in creating a better understanding of racial and ethnic
diversity.
Bulldogs for Life
Butler's pro-life organization.
Butler American Sign Language Club
Students with a passion for the language and culture used by Deaf
Americans. Members should have an interest and some knowledge
of sign language.
Butler Army ROTC
Educates the campus on the benefits and possibilities of ROTC
while working on leadership, communication, and being an active
part of the community.
Butler Crew Team
Men and women practice and compete with area teams in the
sport of rowing.
Butler Dance Team
Provides entertainment for the university by performing dance
routines at sports competitions and all-campus events.
Butler Investment Group
Strives to provide students with a free, non-threatening resource
to help further knowledge and practice in the field of finance and
investments.
Butler Meditation Group
Brings awareness of the possibilities and benefits of
incorporating meditation into everyday life.
Butler Men's Club Basketball
Allows students to play organized basketball at a high level
with other players. This is not a club sport.
Butler Off-Campus Student
Organization
Created to respond to the diverse needs of this large percentage
of students. Its purpose is to inform, represent and provide
assistance to commuter students.
Butler University Resale Network (BURN)
Organizes end-of-the-year resales from unwanted dorm room
and apartment items with proceeds benefitting various
local non-profits.
Butler University Student Foundation
(BUSF)
Members of BUSF work to serve the students of Butler
University-past, present, and future-and provide opportunities in
service, leadership development, career development, student
recruitment, and social events consistent with this mission.
Butler University Weightlifting Club
Established to provide Butler students with the opportunity to
train safely and effectively in the realm of weightlifting.
Colleges Against Cancer
This organization is a national collaboration of college students,
faculty, and staff dedicated to fighting cancer, volunteering for
the American Cancer Society, and improving college communities by
instating and supporting programs of the American Cancer
Society.
Demia: Feminist Majority
Leadership Alliance
The main goal of this organization is to increase the power of
women, which will in turn improve their place in society and give
them the strength and courage to work towards equality. Members
seek to create, maintain, and actively promote a feminist community
on the Butler University campus, to provide a source of education
about health, safety, politics, and labor as they relate to female
perspectives in society, and to address and increase awareness of
sexism and inequality on campus.
Environmental Concerns Organization
(ECO)
ECO is dedicated to fostering environmental activism and
awareness. It is open to any student interested in becoming more
environmentally educated and aware. ECO may be contacted at eco@butler.edu
German
Klub
Provides students who have an interest in German with
academic, cultural, service, and social activities in the
Indianapolis area and greater Midwest region.
Independent
Council
Exists to support and represent all students considered
independents at Butler University and provide those students with
opportunities to get involved on campus as an organization and in
partnerships with other student organizations.
Latinos Unidos
Committed to enriching the Butler University community while
creating awareness of the Latino culture through student
involvement within social, educational, political, and community
outreach.
Lilly Scholars Network
Butler Lilly Scholars interested in both networking and giving
back to the community.
Professional Presence and Profile
Helps students develop a professional presence to share with
future employers.
Sangam
Raises awareness and appreciation of various South Asian cultures.
Open to all members of the Butler community.
To Write Love on
Her Arms
Dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for those struggling
with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide. TWLOHA
aims to accomplish this by inspiring, encouraging, and investing
directly into treatment both locally and around the world.
Visual Arts Student Organization (VASO)
Recognizes and appreciates the visual arts as a major cultural
influence.
Wishmakers on Campus
Raises awareness and funds for the Greater Ohio, Kentucky, and
Indiana Chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation by organizing
fundraising events and advertising to help grant the wishes of
local children.
