BU Printers and Sharp Multifunction Devices
Butler has numerous printers for use throughout campus. If one
of these printers is experiencing problems, the Help Desk will
arrange for troubleshooting and/or replacement of non-consumable
parts. The Help Desk can also assist with connecting to Butler
network printers.
Toner: IT will provide toner for printers
when it is running low, submit a request to the Help Desk for more
toner.
Paper: Department Printers - Office supply
purchasers should place an order through Office 360 if more paper
is needed. Please speak with your department administrative
assistant to place an order.
Lab Printers: If a lab printer is out of paper or
running low, submit a request to the Help Desk for more paper.
Scanning and Faxing: There are many scanners
and fax machines located throughout campus for use by Butler users.
Simply swipe your Butler ID or use your Butler username to login to
one of the designated devices for scanning and faxing.

devices.

Computer and Software Discounts
Computers: Butler students, faculty, and staff
can purchase HP and Apple products at a discount.
Software Discounts: e-Academy offers a discount
to Butler users.
Faculty Only: The Work-at-Home and Home-Use
program offer discounts to Butler faculty and staff on select
Microsoft products.

Computer Rebuild
A computer rebuild is a process that restores a computer's
software to its original state. IT provides this service to
students with personal machines that are experiencing major
software problems which cannot be otherwise resolved. Please
note that there is a $50 service fee for a computer rebuild.

Faculty/Staff Computer Batteries
IT has a small supply of Dell, HP, and Mac batteries as well as
Mac and Dell power adapters available for purchase for Butler-owned
devices.

Hardware Purchase Assistance - BU Owned Devices
IT can assist faculty/staff in the process of purchasing
technology hardware (devices and accessories) and software for
Butler, including selecting device hardware in the marketplace and
filling out a Butler requisition.

Hardware/Software Troubleshooting - Student Owned
Computers
IT offers limited troubleshooting of hardware and software
issues on student owned computers. This service is subject to the
availability of hardware diagnostics from the manufacturer,
anecdotal evidence, and the discretion of Help Desk technicians. IT
is unable to conduct hardware repairs on any non-Butler owned
machines; we can however recommend a third-party in
Indianapolis.

Microsoft Office

Personal Printers
IT provides basic troubleshooting and connectivity support for
personal printers.

PrintSmart (Papercut)
PrintSmart is the system Butler uses to track print jobs sent to
Butler printer. Data tracked includes who printed, number of pages,
duplex or not, which printer, and the name of the document. The
actual contents of the document are not retained. IT provides
support for the PrintSmart software including installation on a
personal device.

Replacement Cycle - Butler Owned Devices
Designated Butler devices are on a schedule for replacement.
This process is coordinated through division/college Replacement
Cycle coordinators each year. IT can check on the status of a
replacement already in process, or assist with any questions or
concerns post-deployment of a device.

Requesting a New Device
Requests for devices are made through an individual's
department. If there is no computer readily available for the new
hire to use, the department will need to order a new computer
through Purchasing.

IT provides limited support for smartphone and tablet devices
including wireless setup, BUmail setup, and basic
troubleshooting.
