Installing the PrintSmart Client Software on a Personal Computer

In order to print from a personal computer, you must either use Web Print or Install the PrintSmart client.   IT highly recommends printing in a lab or using Web Print instead of installing the PrintSmart client software.  Don't forget to add a printer once the client is intstalled!

How to Install on a Windows Computer

1. Connect to the Butler network via wireless or wired connection and ensure you are able to access the Internet
2. Go to the Start Menu (Windows 7) or go to Start and select Run... (Windows XP)
3. In the Search Box, type \\printsmart.butler.edu\PCClient\Win and then press the Enter key (Windows XP users will need to type in the open dialog box)
4. When prompted, enter your Butler username and password; ex: BUTLER\username
5. Double-click Client-Local-Install.exe. You must install the client from inside this folder, otherwise it will not work. DO NOT drag the file to your desktop!
6. Accept the End-user License Agreement
7. Leave the installation path as is
8. Choose "Local Install (For all Users)" when asked
9. When the install is complete, ensure "Launch client and verify my identity" is checked and click Finish
10. Enter your Butler username and password in the login window and ensure "Remember my identity" is checked
11. The PrintSmart client window will now be in the upper right corner of your desktop and the PrintSmart icon will be in the system tray. The PrintSmart client must be running in order for you to print to a computer lab printer.
12. Next, you will need to add a Butler printer

How to Install on a Mac (Single User Machines Only)

1. Connect to the Butler network via wireless or wired connection and ensure you are able to access the Internet
2. 10.7 Lion ONLY: Download and install Java for OSX Lion from Apple 
3. In the Finder, select Go then Connect to Server
4. In the server address field enter smb://printsmart/pcclient/mac then click Connect
5. When prompted, enter your Butler username and password; ex: BUTLER\username
6. Double-click Client-Local-Install. You must install the client from inside this folder, otherwise it will not work. DO NOT drag the file to your desktop!
7. When you see Install PCClient into the Applications Folder click Yes
8. It may take up to 5 minutes for the Login window to appear. Once it does, enter your Butler username and password and ensure "Remember my identity" is checked.
9. Click OK
10. Once the client is installed you should see the PrintSmart icon in your doc and the balance window should be in the upper right corner of you desktop
11. Ctrl + Click the PrintSmart icon and click Open at Login. On 10.6 you must first click Options, then click Open at Login.
12. Restart your computer
13. Now when you login the PrintSmart client window should be in the upper right corner of your desktop and the PrintSmart icon should be in the Dock. Remember: the PrintSmart client must be running in order for you to print to a computer lab printer.
14. Next, you will need to add a Butler printer
