Windows Updates for Students
In order to keep the Butler network secure, it is necessary to
apply software updates on a regular basis.
Automatic Updates
Butler University recommends setting your computer to update
Windows automatically.
In Windows Vista and 7
- Cick on the Start menu and click on
the Control Panel
- Open the Security Center
- Under Windows Update, click Turn automatic
updating on or off
- Under the Important Updates box, change the dropdown box
to Install Updates automatically
(recommended)
- Click OK. You may be prompted for
authentication
In Windows XP
- Cick on the Start menu and click on the
Control Panel
- Open the Security Center
- Click on Windows Updates
- Check the box next to Automatically Install Updates
(recommended)
- Click Apply
Manually Installing Updates
- Connect to the Internet and launch Internet Explorer
- Navigate to http://update.microsoft.com and follow the
prompts
- Select "Install Express Updates"
