Macintosh Antivirus
Installing Software and Running Updates
Despite the fact that there have not been any major viruses on
the Macintosh platform, it is still very important that you
maintain an up-to-date antivirus program to protect against
emerging threats. Symantec Antivirus is installed on all
Butler Macintosh systems.
Symantec is available as a free download for all Butler students.
Follow the link to instructions on installing Symantec Antivirus.
The following are instructions for updating Symantec
Antivirus.
1. Before you begin, you must be in the Finder. Click the
desktop or the Finder icon in the Dock to be in the Finder.
2. On the menu bar, click Go and select
Applications from the dropdown menu.

3. Open the Symantec Solutions folder,
depending on your product version.

4. Double-click LiveUpdate.

5. Click Update Everything Now.

6. After LiveUpdate finishes the update, the LiveUpdate summary
window appears. You may now quit LiveUpdate.

7. Run LiveUpdate again to ensure that you have all available
updates.
Perform a Virus Scan using Symantec AntiVirus
Despite the fact that there have not been any major viruses on the

computer against emerging threats. Symantec Antivirus is
installed on all Butler Macintosh systems and is available as a free
download for all Butler students. The following are
instructions for scanning your computer using Symantec
Antivirus.
1. Before you begin, you must be in the Finder. Click the
desktop or the Finder icon in the Dock to be in the Finder.
2. On the menu bar, click Go
select Applications from the dropdown
menu.

3. Open the Symantec Solutions folder,.

4. Double-click Symantec
Antivirus.
5. Click on Scan...

6. Select Macintosh HD from the sidebar and
then click Select at the bottom right
