How do I reconfigure wireless on my Mac after a password change?
~ Show Answer
Keychains
The Mac OS X keychain is a feature that is meant to simplify use
of your computer by reducing the number of passwords you have to
keep track of. Unfortunately, when you change or reset your Butler
password the Butler keychains are not updated. Because of this, you
may not be able to access the network or Apple Mail/Entourage
accounts until they are updated. This can be fixed by changing the
saved passwords in Keychains.
- In the top right of your screen, click
the Magnifying Glass.
Type Keychain into the search bar.
Select Keychains or Keychain
Access from the dropdown menu
- If you use the Butler wireless, select the BU
Secure Wireless keychain from the list
- If you are changing your Apple Mail or Entourage password, (if
using IMAP) select the internet
password with your username in parentheses, (if using
Exchange) select
the Exchange password
- Under the "Attributes" tab, check the box next
to Show password. You may be prompted for
your local administrator password. Then, change the previous
password to your new password. Click Save
Changes and close Keychains

guest/open wireless network is not encrypted and only permits

available on guest wireless. See our coverage areas for more

Can I install a wireless network or access point in my room or office?
~ Show Answer
No. Personal wireless access points and routers are not
allowed anywhere on the Butler Network including residence halls,
Greek houses or any other buildings connected to Butler's network.
Personal wireless access points interfere with the operation of the
network and are in direct violation of Butler's computer use
policy. Individuals installing or using personal wireless access
points are subject to losing part or all of their network
privileges. Butler wireless

decrease interference, especially in residence halls, the Village
and Greek houses.
What can interfere with my wireless signal?
~ Show Answer
Wireless signal problems may result from other devices
using the same radio frequency as the wireless network. Butler's
wireless network uses both 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz bands for G and A
radio signals. Other "wireless" devices exist in the marketplace
that also use the 2.4 GHz frequency band and can cause interference
to users of the wireless LAN service. These devices include, but
are not limited to, other 802.11 wireless LAN devices, cordless
telephones, cameras, audio speakers, wireless printers and
microwaves.
Does a wireless connection use a lot of power on my laptop?
~ Show Answer
YES! A laptop's batteries will deplete faster when using
wireless since the battery must power the wireless card while
connected.
Which operating systems are currently supported?
~ Show Answer

of security are:

- Windows Vista
- Windows 7
