Frequently Asked Questions
Butler Wireless (BU Secure Wireless)
Due to connectivity issues related to Butler's wireless and
Windows Mobile, connections may be inconsistent.
BUmail
Please Note:
- You can only have ONE Microsoft Exchange Account on your
Windows Mobile devices. If you already have one you cannot add
BUmail as an Exchange account without overwriting the existing
account.
- There are two methods by which you can add an Exchange account
to your mobile device, via PC or through the device itself. Both
methods are described here separately. When adding your account
please choose only ONE of these methods.
- The following device screenshots were taken using Windows
Mobile 6.1. If your device is currently equipped with a different
version of the Windows Mobile operating system, menus and icons may
look slightly different.
Adding Microsoft Exchange Account Using Windows Mobile 6.x and
7.x on the Device

1. Select ActiveSync
|
2. Enter your full Butler email address. Verify that the
"Attempt to detect..." box is unchecked. Click
Next.

3. Enter "bumail.butler.edu" in the "Server address:" box.
Verify that the "This server requires..." box is checked. Click
Next.

4. Enter your Butler username and password, NOT your full email
address. Enter "butler.edu" in the "Domain:" field. Verify that the
"Save Password" box is checked if you would like your device to
sync your mail automatically. (Note: This information will have to
be reentered every time you change your Butler password.) Click
Next.

5. Select the items that you would like to sync. (Note: Items to
be synced option can be changed later.) Click
Finish.

6. Click OK to accept security policies. These
policies are managed by IT and MUST be accepted in order to sync
your Exchange account.

7. ActiveSync will update your device
|
8. When Microsoft Exchange is "Connected," the process of adding
your Butler Exchange account (BUmail) is complete

Adding Microsoft Exchange Account Using ActiveSync on a PC
(tethered using USB cable)

1. Connect your device via USB cable or cradle depending on your
device.
If you have NOT installed ActiveSync, use the following link to
download the setup file:
Microsoft ActiveSync Setup
Go to "Tools" and select "Add Server Source"
|
2. Enter "bumail.butler.edu" in the "Server Address:" box.
Verify that "This server requires..." box is checked. Enter your
Butler username and password in the corresponding fields as well as
"butler.edu" in the "Domain:" field. Check the "Save password" box
if you would like your device to sync automatically.

3. Under the "Microsoft Exchange" heading, select all of the
items you would like to sync directly with your BUmail account
|
4. Microsoft ActiveSync will then attempt to synchronize your
device

5. Refer to the device. Click OK to accept
security policies. These policies are managed by IT and MUST be
accepted in order to sync your Exchange account.

6. When the Microsoft Exchange item is "Synchronized," the
process of adding your Butler Exchange account (BUmail) is
complete
