BUmail and Wireless on Blackberry

Connect to Butler Wireless (BU Secure Wireless)

If your device has WiFi, then you can connect to Butler's wireless network by following these steps:

  1. Register your device on Butler's network
    To do this, you need to get the MAC Address for your Blackberry using these steps:
    • Tap the Menu key at the Home screen
    • Select Options
    • Select Status to view your Blackberry's MAC Address (it will be in the format XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX)
    • From a web browser, visit http://netreg.butler.edu and login with your Butler username and password
    • Enter the MAC address in the MAC address field
    • Enter a Description
    • Click the Register button. You should see a successful registration message. You can now sign out of Netreg.
  2. Turn on your WiFi connection
    • Tap the Menu key at the Home screen
    • Select Manage Connections
    • Scroll down to WiFi and place a check in the box to turn on your WiFi connection
  3. Manually add the Butler network
    • Tap the Menu key at the Home screen
    • Select Set up WiFi Network
    • Select Next
    • Select Manually Add Network
    • Type in BU Secure Wireless and select Add
    • Select PEAP
    • In the Certificate drop-down, select GlobalSign Root CA 2014
    • Select Connect
    • At the Save this Wi-Fi Network as a Profile anyway? field, make sure Yes is selected

To set up BUmail on a Blackberry, please visit your service provider's Blackberry page.

To access this documentation, you will need to know your Blackberry username and password.

Connect to BU Guest/Open Wireless

  1. Register your device on Butler's network
    To do this, you need to get the MAC Address for your Blackberry using these steps:
    • Tap the Menu key at the Home screen
    • Select Options
    • Select Status to view your Blackberry's MAC Address (it will be in the format XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX)
    • From a web browser, visit http://netreg.butler.edu and login with your Butler username and password
    • Enter the MAC address in the MAC address field
    • Enter a Description
    • Click the Register button. You should see a successful registration message. You can now sign out of Netreg.
  2. Turn on your WiFi connection
    • Tap the Menu key at the Home screen
    • Select Manage Connections
    • Scroll down to WiFi and place a check in the box to turn on your WiFi connection
  3. Manually add the Butler network
    • Tap the Menu key at the Home screen
    • Select Set up WiFi Network
    • Select Next
    • Select Manually Add Network
    • Type in BU Guest/Open Wireless and select Add
  4. Your device should now be connected
