Windows 8 Laptop & Desktop Network Registration

BU Secure Wireless Registration ~ Show Information

  1. On the Start screen, move your mouse to the bottom right corner of the screen. Click the Settings gear in the sidebar menu that appears.
  2. Click on the wireless bars icon. It should be labeled "Available".
  3. Under Wi-Fi, select BU Secure Wireless
  4. Click Connect
  5. Enter your Butler username and password if prompted, then click OK
  6. You should now have Internet access

(If your computer does not have wireless) BU Secure Wired Registration ~ Show Information

  1. Make sure your computer is plugged into a RED network port
  2. On the Start screen, move your mouse to the bottom right corner of the screen. Click the Settings gear in the sidebar menu that appears.
  3. Click on the computer/ethernet cord icon. It should be labeled "Unavailable".
  4. Under Connections, select butler.edu
  5. Click Connect
  6. Enter your Butler username and password if prompted. The domain is BUTLER.
  7. Click OK
  8. You should now have Internet access

Creating a Shortcut to BUfiles on your Desktop ~ Show Information

  1. On the Start screen, click on the Desktop tile
  2. Click on Computer
  3. Select "Map Network Drive…" in the standard toolbar
  4. From the Map Network Drive window, select H as the letter you would like to represent the drive
  5. For the Folder field, type \\bufiles\User\username, where username will be your Butler username
  6. Check the box that says "Reconnect at login"
  7. Click Finish and enter your Butler credentials in the box that pops up

Connecting to BU Guest/Open Wireless ~ Show Information

  1. On the Start screen, move your mouse to the bottom right corner of the screen. Click the Settings gear in the sidebar menu that appears.
  2. Click on the wireless bars icon. It should be labeled "Available".
  3. Under Wi-Fi, select BU Guest/Open Wireless
  4. Click Connect
  5. A screen will appear in your internet browser with username and password fields, as well as two links. Click on the I Don't Have a Butler Account - Create a Guest Account link.
  6. Enter the required information and click Submit
  7. The page will confirm that your account has been successfully created. Make a note of your username and password. These appear below along with the information you entered on the previous page.
  8. When you have your information ready, click on the button labeled I have my username and password, take me to the log in screen
  9. Enter your username and password. Click Log In.
  10. The Butler University Computer Use Policy appears. Once you have read the policy, indicate your acceptance by checking the Accept the terms and conditions box, then click Accept.
  11. An Active-X download may take a few seconds. You may also see a notification that your IP Address is being renewed.
  12. Once completed, you should now have Internet access
