Windows 7 Laptop & Desktop Network Registration

BU Secure Wireless Registration ~ Show Information

  1. Click the Wireless Icon in the system tray (bottom right down by the clock)
  2. Select BU Secure Wireless from the list of Wireless Network Connections and click Connect
  3. If you see a message that asks you to connect or terminate, click Connect
  4. Enter your Butler username and password if prompted, then click OK
  5. You should now have Internet access

(If your computer does not have wireless) BU Secure Wired Registration ~ Show Information

  1. Make sure your computer is plugged into a RED network port
  2. Click Start Menu and type Services  and then press Enter
  3. Scroll down in this list and double click the Wired AutoConfig service
  4. Change the Startup type to Automatic and click Start. The service status should change to started.
  5. Click OK then close the Services window
  6. Click Start Menu and type View network connections, then press Enter
  7. Right click Local Area Connection and select properties
  8. Click the Authentication tab
  9. Ensure the Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication box is checked
  10. Ensure the Network authentication method is set to PEAP
  11. Click the Settings button
  12. Click the Configure button and uncheck the box next to Automatically use my Windows logon name and password
  13. Click OK
  14. Click OK again
  15. Ensure the Fallback to unauthorized network access box is checked
  16. Click the Advanced Settings button
  17. Ensure that the Specify Authentication Mode box is checked and that User Authentication is selected
  18. Click OK
  19. Click OK again
  20. Right click Local Area Connection and select Disable
  21. Right click Local Area Connection  and select Enable
  22. Click the Balloon that appears prompting for Additional Information...
  23. Enter your Butler username and password. The domain is BUTLER.
  24. Click OK
  25. You should now have Internet access

Creating a Shortcut to BUfiles on your Desktop ~ Show Information

  1. Right-click the My Computer icon, located on either the Desktop or the Start Menu, and select "Map Network Drive…"
  2. From the Map Network Drive window select H as the letter you would like to represent the drive
  3. For the Folder field, type \\bufiles\User\username, where username will be your Butler username
  4. Check the box that says "Reconnect at login"
  5. Click finish and enter your Butler credentials in the box that pops up

Connecting to BU Guest/Open Wireless ~ Show Information

  1. Click the Wireless Icon in the system tray (bottom right down by the clock)
  2. Select BU Guest/Open Wireless from the list of Wireless Network Connections and click Connect
  3. A screen will appear in your internet browser with username and password fields, as well as two links. Click on the I Don't Have a Butler Account - Create a Guest Account link.
  4. Enter the required information and click Submit
  5. The page will confirm that your account has been successfully created. Make a note of your username and password. These appear below along with the information you entered on the previous page.
  6. When you have your information ready, click on the button labeled I have my username and password, take me to the log in screen
  7. Enter your username and password. Click Log In.
  8. The Butler University Computer Use Policy appears. Once you have read the policy, indicate your acceptance by checking the Accept the terms and conditions box, then click Accept.
  9. An Active-X download may take a few seconds. You may also see a notification that your IP Address is being renewed.
  10. Once completed, you should now have Internet access
