BU Secure Wireless Registration ~ Show
Information
- NOTE: If you have previously connected to
the Butler Network via BUWPAnet or BU Guest Wireless, follow the
steps below and then remove any BUWPAnet references AFTER
connecting to BU Secure Wireless
- Ensure that you are in a wireless location
- Click the Wireless
Icon in the system tray (bottom right down by the
clock)
- Click Connect to a
network.
- From the list of wireless
networks, click BU Secure Wireless
- Click Enter/select
additional log on information from the next
screen
- Enter your Butler username and
password. The Login domain is BUTLER.
- Select Enter/select
additional log on information from the next
screen
- A window will pop up asking you
to validate the server certificate. Click
OK.
- You should now have Internet
access
(If your computer does not have wireless) BU Secure
Wired Registration ~ Show Information
- Make sure your computer is plugged into
a RED network port
- Click Start Menu and type Services
and then press Enter
- Scroll down in this list and double
click the Wired
AutoConfig service
- Change the Startup
type to Automatic and
click Start. The service status should
change to started.
- Click OK then close the Services
window
- Click Start Menu and type Network and sharing
center, then press Enter
- Select Manage Network Connections
- Right click Local Area
Connection and
select properties
- Click the Authentication tab
- Ensure the Enable IEEE 802.1x
authentication
box is checked
- Ensure the Network authentication method is set
to PEAP
- Click the Settings button
- Click the Configure button
and uncheck the box next to
Automatically use my Windows logon name and password
- Click OK
- Click OK again
- Click the Advanced Settings button
- Ensure that the Specify Authentication Mode
box is checked and that User Authentication is
selected
- Click OK
- Click OK again
- Right click Local Area
Connection and
select Disable
- Right click Local Area Connection
and select Enable
- Click the Balloon that appears prompting
for Additional Information...
- Enter your Butler username and password. The domain
is BUTLER.
- Click OK
- You should now have Internet access
Creating a Shortcut to BUfiles on your Desktop
~ Show Information
- Right-click the My Computer icon, located on either the Desktop
or the Start Menu, and select "Map Network Drive…"
- From the Map Network Drive window select H as the letter you
would like to represent the drive
- For the Folder field, type \\bufiles\User\username,
where username will be your Butler username
- Check the box that says "Reconnect at login"
- Click finish and enter your Butler credentials in the box that
pops up. Make sure you enter your username like so:
BUTLER\username

Connecting to BU Guest/Open Wireless ~ Show
Information
- Ensure that you are in a wireless location
- Click the Wireless
Icon in the system tray (bottom right down by the
clock)
- Click Connect to a
network.
- From the list of wireless
networks, click BU Guest/Open Wireless
- A screen will appear in your internet browser with username and
password fields, as well as two links. Click on the I Don't
Have a Butler Account - Create a Guest Account link.
- Enter the required information and click
Submit
- The page will confirm that your account has been successfully
created. Make a note of your username and
password. These appear below along with the information
you entered on the previous page.
- When you have your information ready, click on the button
labeled I have my username and password, take me to the log
in screen
- Enter your username and password. Click Log
In.
- The Butler University Computer Use Policy appears. Once you
have read the policy, indicate your acceptance by checking the
Accept the terms and conditions box, then click
Accept.
- An Active-X download may take a few seconds. You may also see a
notification that your IP Address is being renewed.
- Once completed, you should now have Internet access
