Streaming Devices

To determine the MAC address of your television device, consult the instructions for your particular device.  For devices from other manufacturers not listed here, consult the general Smart TV instructions below.  

Apple TV

  1. Go to Settings > General > Network.
  2. The Wi-Fi address will be listed in the format XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX.
  3. From a web browser (Chrome preferred), visit http://netreg.butler.edu and login with your Butler username and password.
  4. Enter the Wi-Fi address in the MAC address field.
  5. Enter a description.
  6. Click the Submit button.
  7. You should see a successful registration message. You can now sign out of Netreg.
  8. Restart your Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
  9. Connect to BU Guest/Open Wireless.
  10. Your device should now be connected to the Internet.

Note: Some Apple TV services will not function on the Butler network. More information is available here

Amazon Fire TV

  1. From the Main menu, select Settings.
  2. Select System.
  3. Select About.
  4. Select Network.
  5. If connected via wired connection, MAC Address displayed there will be the MAC address if you intend to use a direct ethernet connection. In order to obtain Wireless Mac Address, you need to unplug the ethernet connection. Use this MAC address if you intend to use the Wireless.).
  6. The MAC address will be listed in the format XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX.
  7. From a web browser (Chrome preferred), visit http://netreg.butler.edu and login with your Butler username and password.
  8. Enter the Wi-Fi address in the MAC address field.
  9. Enter a description.
  10. Click the Submit button.
  11. You should see a successful registration message. You can now sign out of Netreg.
  12. Restart your Fire TV Box (Unplug the power cord and then plug back in).
  13. If connecting via wireless, connect to BU Guest/Open Wireless.
  14. Your device should now be connected to the Internet.

Boxee Box

  1. From the Settings menu, select System.
  2. Select Information.
  3. The Wi-Fi address will be listed in the format XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX.
  4. From a web browser (Chrome preferred), visit http://netreg.butler.edu and login with your Butler username and password.
  5. Enter the Wi-Fi address in the MAC address field.
  6. Enter a description.
  7. Click the Submit button.
  8. You should see a successful registration message. You can now sign out of Netreg.
  9. Restart your Boxee Box (From the main menu, select the power icon on the bottom right to shut down, then restart).
  10. Connect to BU Guest/Open Wireless.
  11. Your device should now be connected to the Internet.

Google TV

  1. Go to Settings and select Network and then Status.  
  2. The MAC address will be listed in the format XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX.
  3. From a web browser (Chrome preferred), visit http://netreg.butler.edu and login with your Butler username and password.
  4. Enter the MAC address in the MAC address field.
  5. Enter a description.
  6. Click the Submit button.
  7. You should see a successful registration message. You can now sign out of Netreg.
  8. Restart your Google TV.
  9. Connect to BU Guest/Open Wireless.
  10. You device should now be connected to the Internet.

Roku

  1. From the home screen go to Settings.
  2. Select About.
  3. The MAC address will be listed in the format XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX.
  4. From a web browser (Chrome preferred), visit http://netreg.butler.edu and login with your Butler username and password.
  5. Enter the MAC address in the MAC address field.
  6. Enter a description.
  7. Click the Submit button.
  8. You should see a successful registration message. You can now sign out of Netreg.
  9. Restart your Roku (Unplug the power cord and then plug back in).
  10. Connect to BU Guest/Open Wireless.
  11. You device should now be connected to the Internet.

Vizio Smart TV

  1. Press the Menu button on the remote.
  2. Select Network, then Manual Setup.
  3. The RJ45 and/or Wireless MAC address will appear on the screen.
  4. The MAC address will be listed in the format XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX.
  5. From a web browser (Chrome preferred), visit http://netreg.butler.edu and login with your Butler username and password.
  6. Enter the MAC address in the MAC address field.
  7. Enter a description.
  8. Click the Submit button.
  9. You should see a successful registration message. You can now sign out of Netreg.
  10. Turn your TV off and turn it back on.
  11. If connecting via wireless, Connect to BU Guest/Open Wireless
  12. You device should now be connected to the Internet.

Smart TVs (other manufacturers)

  1. Visit the TV manufacturer's webpage (i.e., Google it) for instructions on locating the Wireless and/or Wired Mac address.  
  2. The MAC address will be listed in the format XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX.
  3. From a web browser (Chrome preferred), visit http://netreg.butler.edu and login with your Butler username and password.
  4. Enter the MAC address in the MAC address field.
  5. Enter a description.
  6. Click the Submit button.
  7. You should see a successful registration message. You can now sign out of Netreg.
  8. Turn your TV off and turn it back on.
  9. If connecting via wireless, Connect to BU Guest/Open Wireless
  10. You device should now be connected to the Internet.

Note: Some Smart TV services will not function on the Butler network.  Most streaming services should work.
