Registering Microsoft Game Systems

Microsoft Original Xbox

  1. Turn on your Xbox console with no game disc in the disc tray
  2. From the Xbox main screen, select Xbox Live
  3. These steps assume you cannot connect to Xbox Live until you finish configuring your Xbox console to use your PC's MAC address. Therefore, you should receive the following message: "Could not connect to Xbox Live. Do you want to troubleshoot your network connection?"
  4. From the Connect Status screen, select Settings
  5. The 12-digit number at the bottom-right corner of the Network Settings screens is the MAC address of your Xbox console. Copy down this address.
  6. From a web browser, visit http://netreg.butler.edu and login with your Butler username and password
  7. Enter the MAC address in the MAC address field
  8. Enter a description
  9. Click the Register button
  10. You should see a successful registration message. You can now sign out of Netreg.
  11. Restart your Xbox
  12. Connect to the BU Guest/Open Wireless network
  13. Your device should now be connected

Microsoft Xbox 360

  1. In the Xbox Dashboard, go to My Xbox and open System Settings
  2. Select Network Settings, Configure Network
  3. On the Additional Settings tab, select Advanced Settings
  4. Write down the Wired MAC Address displayed there and use this MAC address if you intend to use a direct ethernet connection. (You can also select Wireless Information and the wireless MAC address will be displayed there, use this MAC address if you intend to use the Wireless.)
  5. From a web browser, visit http://netreg.butler.edu and login with your Butler username and password
  6. Enter the MAC address in the MAC address field
  7. Enter a description
  8. Click the Register button
  9. You should see a successful registration message. You can now sign out of Netreg.
  10. Restart your Xbox 360
  11. Connect to the BU Guest/Open Wireless network if you registered your wireless MAC address.
  12. Your device should now be connected
