Graduate Access to Computing and Network Resources

As a graduate, Information Technology wants you to be successful in transitioning your email and data from Butler's systems to wherever you choose. Please read the following information carefully.

You will lose access to Butler printers immediately following commencement.

On August 1st, after graduation, your ability to access Butler computer systems will end and all data in your accounts will be deleted. This includes BUmail, My.Butler.edu, Moodle, Google Apps, and all other systems that require your Butler username and password. An email alert will be sent before your access is discontinued. You should do the following PRIOR to August 1st in order to save your data before it is deleted.

Beginning August 1st, email sent to your Butler address will not be accessible via BUmail. The only way to get mail sent to your Butler address is to forward it to another email system (e.g. hotmail, gmail, yahoo, etc.).

To setup email forwarding:

Go to http://bumail.butler.edu and click Forwarding Options in the lower right corner.

Mail forwarding service is provided for one year. After one year, your email will no longer be forwarded and any messages sent to your Butler address will be returned to the sender. Prior to the end of that year, you need to contact any important individuals and give them your new email address.

Exporting Emails and Contacts:

Please visit our Exporting Emails page for more information.

Additional Information

Once you have set up forwarding, all email currently in your BUmail account will remain there even though new mail is being forwarded. In order to keep your old emails you will need to email them to your new account or connect a mail client such as Outlook or Thunderbird to your mailbox and copy your messages and contacts. See "Access Butler Email Via an Email Client" for directions.

All-campus alerts and Butler Connection messages will continue to go to graduates. Graduates will remain on organization listservs (i.e., Greek houses) unless the organization removes them.

Butler's main web site is available for a lifetime, including Career Services functions. Be sure to register at www.butler.edu/alumni.

IT has enjoyed serving your technology needs during your time at Butler and we wish you the best of luck in the future!
