Graduate Access to Computing and Network Resources

As a graduate, Information Technology wants you to be successful in transitioning your data from Butler's systems to wherever you choose. Other than email and secure wireless, Butler network account access will be terminated upon degree conferral. Degree conferral takes place three times per year: December commencement, May commencement, and at the end of Summer Session II when grades are due.

Email and Secure Wireless

All students who graduated after August 2013 will retain their Butler email addresses (username@butler.edu) and their access to BU Secure Wireless. You have the option to continue to use your email account through BUmail or you may choose to forward it to another email system (e.g., hotmail, gmail, yahoo, etc.).

To set up email forwarding:

Go to http://bumail.butler.edu and click "Forwarding Options" in the lower right corner.

Exporting Emails and Contacts

Please visit our Exporting Emails page for more information.

Once email forwarding is set up, all email currently in your BUmail account will remain there even though new mail is being forwarded. In order to keep your old emails, you will need to email them to your new account or connect a mail client, such as Outlook or Thunderbird, to your mailbox and copy your messages and contacts. See "Access Butler Email Via an Email Client" for directions.

All-campus alerts and Butler Connection messages will continue to be sent to graduates. Graduates will remain on organization listservs (e.g., Greek houses) unless the organization removes them.

Note that users will continue to be required to change their Butler password via password.butler.edu every 180 days.

Printing

All graduates will lose access to Butler printing upon degree conferral.

Systems and Applications

All graduates will lose access to Butler computer systems and applications that require a Butler username and password (except for BUmail, password.butler.edu. and BU Secure Wireless) upon degree conferral. All data will be deleted at that time. This includes:

  • Moodle
  • Butler Google Apps
  • My.Butler.edu
  • BUfiles

Email alerts will be sent before your access is discontinued. You should do the following PRIOR to your degree conferral in order to save your data before it is deleted.
