Graduate Access to Computing and Network Resources

As a graduate, Information Technology wants you to be successful in transitioning your data from Butler's systems to wherever you choose. Please read the following information carefully.


All August 2013, December 2013, and May 2014 graduates will retain their Butler email addresses via You have the option to keep your email account through BUmail or you may choose to forward it to another email system (e.g. hotmail, gmail, yahoo, etc.).

To set up email forwarding:

Go to and click "Forwarding Options" in the lower right corner.

Once you have set up forwarding, all email currently in your BUmail account will remain there even though new mail is being forwarded. In order to keep your old emails, you will need to email them to your new account or connect a mail client, such as Outlook or Thunderbird, to your mailbox and copy your messages and contacts. See "Access Butler Email Via an Email Client" for directions.

All-campus alerts and Butler Connection messages will continue to go to graduates. Graduates will remain on organization listservs (i.e., Greek houses) unless the organization removes them.

Note that you will continue to be required to change your Butler password every 180 days.


All graduates will lose access to Butler printers immediately following commencement.

Systems and Applications

All graduates will lose access to Butler computer systems and applications that require a Butler username and password (except for BUmail and on August 1. All data will be deleted at that time. This includes:

  • Moodle
  • Butler Google Apps
  • BUfiles

An email alert will be sent before your access is discontinued. You should do the following PRIOR to August 1st in order to save your data before it is deleted.
