Butler University Information Technology seeks a team-oriented
and highly-organized person who's interested in taking their
network and system management skills to the next level. This team
member will ensure enterprise systems are maintained in a healthy,
reliable, efficient and cost-effective and manner. In the
role of Network & Server Operations Analyst, this individual
will have the following responsibilities:
• Manage and oversee the campus' enterprise Exchange cluster
in support of Butler's 5,000 mailboxes.
• Administration of the campus' Windows file server cluster
including monitoring health, patching and other maintenance
• Monitor, manage and own the VMware vSphere and ESXi server
• Manage enterprise Windows print queue setup, administration
• Daily administration and troubleshooting of Butler's:
o Microsoft Exchange server cluster
o Microsoft Windows file and print solutions
o VMware vSphere and ESX server cluster
o EMC SAN storage
o Cisco network equipment, firewall, IPS, wireless, and NAC
systems (hardware and software)
o DNS and DHCP services
• Deploy and administer Windows and Linux servers in virtual
and physical environments.
• Analyze system/business processes to identify
inefficiencies; develop strategies for improvement; operationalize
and automate procedures to improve business processes.
• Create and maintain procedural/knowledge base
• Monitor and respond to server, network and system alerts and
• Patch and upgrade operating systems (Windows, Linux, ESXi)
and hardware firmware.
• Other duties as assigned.
Requirements and Qualifications:
o 3 - 5 years fulltime experience in a technical support
o 2-3 years' experience in the following areas is required:
Windows Server administration (server 2008 and 2012); Microsoft
Windows file and print services; Microsoft Exchange 2010 or greater
administration, VMWare vSphere and ESXi (5.0 or greater); scripting
(PowerShell/PHP preferred); server hardware support; Windows server
o Backing up servers and managing backup tape rotation
o DNS and DHCP administration experience
• Preferred but not required:
o Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related
o Experience in a higher education and/or a large/complex IT
o 1-3 years' Implementing and supporting Windows cluster
o 1-3 years' experience in Linux/UNIX Server administration
o Implementing and designing SAN solutions (EMC)
o Administering and supporting Cisco switches, routers and
o HP BladeSystem - chassis and blades
o Nagios/Cacti or similar network/server monitoring
• Considered a plus:
o Mac OS X (10.7 and 10.8)
o Cisco Telephony
o Cisco Storage Network administration
o Rack Tables
o MCSE certification (Server 2008 or 2012)
