Group Fitness Instructor (GFI)
Job Description
- This is a position in which the Group Fitness Instructor is
expected to lead a group of participants through a specific class
format. The GFI creatively designs classes that are safe for
participants including proper use of equipment and movement.
Administrative duties include timely communication with the
supervisor and participants, keeping participant counts and
maintain knowledge of current industry standards. Nationally
recognized certifications are recommended such as Aerobics and
Fitness Association of America (AFAA), American Council on Exercise
(ACE), American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) or another
reputable organization.
Time: 1-4 classes per week, varying in length
from 20 - 60 minutes
Dates: Academic year (Summer Session hours
available).
Reports to: Group Fitness Coordinator

1 - If you already have a group fitness certification,
you can contact Beth Lohman, Assistant Director of Recreation -
Fitness, to discuss an audition (blohman@butler.edu ;

2 - Take our Fall In-House Group
Fitness Training
Certifications Required
Being certified in FA/CPR/AED is a requirement of
employment.
- The Department of Recreation will provide opportunities to
obtain certification through the American Red Cross.
- If you cannot make the sessions we provide it is up to you to
obtain certification within 30 days of employment.
Employees that join the team via the Fall In-House Group Fitness
Training Program are required to obtain a nationally recognized
group fitness instructor certification within one year of hire
date.
