Bulldog Beauty Contest-11th Anniversary-
Register Now!
Registration will remain open until Thursday, October 20
at 3 p.m.
The information below is for those owners/pets who have
registered for the 2011 Bulldog Beauty Contest.
Thank you for registering to be a part of our 11th annual event.
As of right now we have approx. 80 bulldogs signed up to
participate which is fantastic! Keep in mind, last year we had more
than 135 dogs participate, but that was also with a "Wanna-be"
category. This year it is a bulldogs-only so that should affect the
numbers a little bit.
Nonetheless, we have an incredible pre-registration (closes
Thursday) and I can only imagine what our walk-up registration will
look like.
At any rate, thank you for signing up early and guaranteeing
yourself a goodie back from Holistic Select and City Dogs
Grocery!
So that you're prepared for Saturday, I've outlined some details
below.
Parking:
Parking will be at a premium on Saturday. My best advice is to
utilize the designated drop-off location, immediately off of Sunset
Ave., on Lake Road, and arrive early. Here is a campus map to help
orient you with Butler's campus. The Bulldog Beauty Contest is
located at the Health and Recreation Complex which is #20 on the
campus map.
Of course, if you were quick on the draw and were able to
purchase and reserve a spot through the alumni office, then you're
in good shape. Those spots are sold out at this time. If you
did order a spot, you should have already received your parking
pass in the mail. If not, contact the alumni office at (317)
940-9946 ASAP.
The drop-off location I mentioned above is something I would
encourage you to utilize should you not have a reserved spot
already. So take a friend or loved one along with that can stay
with the dog after drop off while you go park the car, or vice
versa.
The first places to look for parking when you arrive will be
along Lake Road and the north Clowes Hall lot. Those will be the
closest in proximity to the Bulldog Beauty Contest location by the
HRC and Hinkle Fieldhouse.
Free parking is available in other parking lots on campus marked
A or C. Parking is not permitted in lots marked B, G or HV.
Please be aware of street parking restrictions along Hampton Drive,
Sunset Avenue and 49th Street due to the
parade.
Registration:
You are receiving this because you pre-registered. Obviously.
Thank you. However, when you arrive, you'll want to check-in at the
registration table again. It is there that you'll pick up your
contestant number. Each dog is issued a contestant number, however,
it is the human, not the dog, that wears this number (it's like a
race bib).
Thus, since you're pre-registered, you will have a contestant
number pre-assigned, so you'll simply check-in, get your number,
pin it on, grab your goodie bag and get ready to go. Simple.
Oh, and make sure you check-in prior to 9:45 a.m. as the contest
will get underway promptly at 10:00 a.m.
Competition:
The competition is sure to be fierce and with nine awards to be
won, well, may the best bulldogs win.
Our nine categories are:
Cutest Bulldog
Meanest-Looking Bulldog
Best Dressed Bulldog
Best Bulldog/Human Tandem
Best Bulldog Trick
Most Butler Spirit
Best Blue II Look-A-Like
Oldest Bulldog
Youngest Bulldog
And of course Best In Show!
Dogs are eligible to enter up to two categories only, not
counting "best in show."
Again, only two categories of competition per dog, and once a
dog has won a certain category, they are excluded from competing in
any remaining categories until the "Best in Show" round.
We've added speakers to the back of the stage so that you can
hear the categories as their called while hanging out in the dog
run back there. We'll also have two lines forming at a time so
we keep things moving. We'll have volunteers with you at all
times to keep you updated.
On the front side of the stage/cat walk, we'll have a panel of
five judges (to be revealed) and a big set of bleachers filled with
spectators. So you'll walk up one side, hit the run way, walk back
and off the other side. Nothing to it.
Prizes:
Once again, our friends at Holistic Select and City Dogs Grocery
have teamed to offer up some great prizes this year. Of course,
everyone is a winner given what they've put into the goodie bags,
but win one of the nine categories and you'll really be doing well.
There's plenty to keep your bulldog busy should you be fortunate
enough to win.
We'll also have those cool trophies up for grabs again this year
and the beauty contest sashes as well.
Sponsors:
I'd be remiss if I didn't mention our great sponsors for this
event. This contest has grown in stature every year and that's
thanks to both our participants and our sponsors. Not to mention,
it is these same sponsors that have our own bulldog, Butler Blue
II, living the good life!
If it's good enough for Blue, well, consider it good enough for
your bulldog. Our sponsors include…
Photography:
This year our friend, Rick Miller of New Palestine, Ind., will be
on hand to take photos. Once Rick has time to process the photos,
we'll likely throw them up on Blue II's Flickr
site and open them up for viewing and downloading.
You're welcome to have family and friends snap photos or shoot
video as well. Just be cognizant of our spectators and try not to
block their view.
Survey/Feedback:
In the days and weeks following the contest, you'll receive some
correspondence about a survey regarding the event. Please take a
few moments to fill that out and leave us some feedback. Feedback
from our participants has led to some really positive changes over
the years, so we always appreciate the thoughts and
opinions.
Good Luck:
Good luck on Saturday and make sure you take some time to enjoy the
event. It's a lot of fun and has truly become a highlight of
Butler's Homecoming festivities. We're grateful to all of you for
sharing your bulldogs with us and the Butler community.
See you on Saturday!
