Virginia bluebells (Mertensia virginica)
Member of the Boraginaceae (Borage) family. Grows in bottomland, river woods, 1- 2 feet, March - May. The nodding, trumpet like flowers are pink in bud then open to a blue- violet color. Leaves are oval, smooth, strongly veined; stems are smooth and succulent.
