Spring beauty, Virginia spring beauty (Claytonia virginica)
Member of the Portulacaceae (Purslane) family. Grows in moist woods, 6 - 12 inches, March - May. Has a pair of smooth linear leaves midway up the stem. Petals are white or pink with darker pink veins. The flowers are borne in a loose raceme on a rather spindly stem.
