Herbarium Director - Dr. Rebecca Dolan
| Rebecca Dolan
has an undergraduate degree in Botany from the University of Michigan and
a PhD in Botany from the University of Georgia. She worked as an environmental
consultant conducting endangered species inventories for environmental
impact reports in California before moving to Indiana.
Rebecca's teaching experience includes stints as Visiting Assistant Professor at Wabash College and at Butler University and serving as a member of the Honor's Faculty at Butler. She has taught botany, ecology and introductory biology for majors and non-majors. Dr. Dolan often teaches a course in Disease Ecology for Honors Program students as well as a course in Local Flora of Indiana. Research Interests: I am interested in the biology and natural history of Indiana plants. I am working with a group of botanists throughout the state to computerize our Herbarium specimen records and to produce an atlas of plant distributions. In addition, I am conducting field and laboratory studies of rare native plants. Goals of the study are to use data from demographic and genetic studies to determine the health of remnant populations and to develop management strategies for their conservation. I am also involved with a group studying the success of a massive prairie restoration The Nature Conservancy is undertaking in northwestern Indiana. I seek student involvement in database management, herbarium operations, field checks of plant occurrences, and genetic studies using starch gel electrophoresis of isozymes. |
