Black cherry  (Prunus serotina)

Native

The “burned potato chip” look of  the older bark is the most charactreistic feature of this  relative of the commercial cherry.   Birds love the small red fruits produced in July and August.  Leaves are shiny and oblong with finely-toothed margins.
