Tuliptree (Liriodendron tulipifera)

The leaves of this large forest tree have a sistinctive shape with a deeply-notched tip.  Yellowish-green tulip-shaped flowers are borne in the early summer.   The dry, cone-shaped axis of the fruits remains on branches through the winter.  It is the state tree of Indiana.  Settlers used the wood for building.
