Osteoporosis Screenings
In addition to the comprehensive health screenings offered by the Healthy Horizons Program, we also offer Osteoporosis Screenings.
Osteoporosis Screenings
You should be screened for Osteoporosis if you are:
- Postmenopausal and 65 years of age & older, OR
- You have a history of bone fracture which has occurred after the age of 40.
A bone mineral density test is performed via a "heel scan." Your foot is placed on a machine which uses ultrasound to determine the amount of bone mass in your heel. The only preparation required for this test is that you wear easily removable shoes and socks.
