Osteoporosis Screening
Osteoporosis (Bone Mineral Density) screenings are for women
only.
You should be screened for osteoporosis if you are/have:
- Postmenopausal and 65 years of age or older
- Have a history of bone fracture after the age of 40
A bone mineral density test is performed by a machine that uses
ultrasound to determine the amount of bone mass in your heel. This
test requires you to place your bare foot into the machine. So, the
only preparation for this test is that you wear easily removable
shoes and socks.
