Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to make an appointment to be seen at Health Services? Show Answer

To best utilize your time and ours, please call ahead (317) 940-9385 to make an appointment. In most cases we can see you the same day. If you walk-in you will be seen on a first come first served basis,  be evaluated by a nurse, and scheduled to see the doctor if needed.

How much does it cost? Show Answer

You are responsible for the co-payment listed on your insurance card. All charges may be charged to your student account. There is no need to have cash on hand in order to be seen.

Do you bill insurance companies? Show Answer

Yes. Bring your insurance card and your student ID to the clinic when you visit. A list of currently accepted insurance companies can be found on the insurance billing page.

What do I do if I am ill and the clinic MD is not there? Show Answer

If students need to be seen by a physician and this cannot be accommodated at Health Services, or it has been determined that one needs to be seen immediately, students are referred to one of the surrounding urgent care centers or an emergency room.

What do I do if I get sick when Health Services isn't open? Show Answer

Students who call after hours will get an answering machine advising them what to do. Some options include:

  • If it is not urgent, leave a message and a nurse will call them back on the next business day.
  • Call BUPD who in turn may page a nurse
  • Go to a nearby urgent care center

See resources on after hours care page.

Why don't you write prescriptions for antibiotics when I need one? Show Answer

The determination for need of an antibiotic comes from the clinic MD. Using antibiotics when not indicated can cause bacteria to become resistant to them and become ineffective when they are really needed.

Will you write a note because I missed class? Show Answer

Health Services staff members do not write excuses for missing class time. It should also be noted that professors will be unable to check and see if students were at the clinic. Due to privacy regulations, we are unable to confirm if students received services.

Why won't you discuss my visit to the Health Services with my parents? Show Answer

We take medical confidentiality seriously. We are prevented by law from releasing any medical information to parents of non-minor children without the consent of the patient. In the case of a life or death emergency, we would contact parents immediately.

Students may sign a release form that gives us permission to speak to designated people about designated health concerns. In Indiana, releases are in effect for 60 days.
