The Order of Omega
The Order of Omega is a leadership honor society for fraternity
and sorority members. The national organization was founded at the
University of Miami in the fall of 1959 by a group of outstanding
fraternity men, who felt that individuals in the Greek community
should be recognized for their service to the fraternity system and
the university.
The Nu Upsilon Chapter at Butler University was established in
1993 and recognizes those fraternity men and women who have
attained a high standard of character, service and leadership in
interfraternal activities, as well as academic pursuit. Those
inducted into membership serve many student organizations across
campus, as well as the fraternity and sorority community.
Membership
New membership during an academic year is limited to no more
than 3% of the Greek population at a campus. Applicants must be a
Junior or Senior in academic credit hours, possess a cumulative GPA
above 3.0, has been enrolled at BU for at least two semesters and
not graduating during the same semester as the application of
membership.
Programs
Order of Omega coordinates two primary programs for the Butler
Greek Community. Greeks Leading Greeks is an annual workshop for
new officers and emerging leaders, facilitated by experienced Greek
leaders. Greeks Leading Greeks is co-sponsored by the Butler
Panhellenic Association. Greek Excellence Awards, presented
annually in April, recognize outstanding achievement among
fraternity and sorority chapters in the areas of scholarship,
leadership, campus involvement, service, and chapter
programming.
Nu Upsilon Chapter has received Outstanding Chapter
Awards from the national Order of Omega in 2007 and 2010 and
honorable mention in 2008.
