University Advancement

Ovid Butler Society

Butler University was founded by Ovid Butler, who envisioned an "institution of learning of the highest class." The university has been a leader among Indiana institutions since it opened its doors in 1855. Butler has admitted students of all races and denominations since its founding. It was the second university in the nation to admit women on an equal basis with men, and it was the second in the nation to appoint a woman to its faculty, as well as the first to establish an endowed chair specifically for a female professor. Today, Butler attracts some of the brightest students from 38 states and 52 countries.

Butler's comprehensive programming includes innovative and broad-based curriculum, student research opportunities, internships and study abroad programs.

Members of the Ovid Butler Society help to continue a rich tradition of annual support for Butler University and ensure that current and future Butler students will benefit from quality education, facilities and programs throughout their Butler experience.

Ovid Butler Society Member Privileges

Butler University greatly appreciates the generosity of its annual supporters. The best reward you can receive for your contribution, of course, is the satisfaction of knowing that you have made a difference in the lives of others. Nevertheless, Butler likes to publicly thank its donors and recognize them for their philanthropic efforts.

Butler University is currently reviewing privileges offered to OBS members in attempt to provide our most generous donors with unique, exclusive functional and worthwhile benefits. New benefits for those exceptional individuals and families who make a significant, outright commitment of $1,000 or more to Butler University will be announced early in the 2009 fiscal year.

Should you have any comments, questions or ideas, please feel free to contact Erica Altuve director of annual giving at (317) 940-9672. Your patience and understanding are greatly appreciated!

Privileges

  • Privileges begin upon receipt of your Ovid Butler Society gift and continue for one year. Butler's fiscal year is June 1-May 31.
  • An Ovid Butler Society gift provides membership privileges for two adult members of your household.
  • If you are employed by or associated with a company that matches gifts, or if your spouse works for such a company, you could double or even triple your gift. Corporate matching gifts count toward the total amount for recognition purposes.

Ovid Butler Society Giving Levels

Butler University is eager to both honor members of our recognition societies and act as a good steward of the contributed funds; therefore, only limited amounts are spent on benefits for members.
