Freshman Academic Scholarship

To Apply: Complete the Application for
Freshman Admission and Scholarships (or Common
Application).
Application Deadline: November 1 to receive
maximum scholarship consideration. Complete applications received
after November 1 will be considered for scholarship based on
available funds.
Award Amounts: Range from $8,000 to $16,000 and
vary each academic year based on the quality of the applicant
pool.
Selection Criteria: Awards are based on the
student's academic record - test scores, GPA, high school
curriculum and extracurricular involvement at the time of
admission.
Notification: Award letters are sent under
separate cover from the Office of Financial Aid approximately three
weeks after notification of admission to Butler University.
Renewable? Yes, as long as the student
maintains the renewal criteria outlined in the scholarship
offer.
Notes: National Merit and National Achievement
semi-finalist are guaranteed a minimum award. National Merit
finalists who designate Butler University as their sponsor are
eligible for an additional award from the National Merit
Scholarship Corporation for $1000.
Departmental Scholarship

Application).
Application Deadline: November 1
Award Amounts: Range from $1,000 to $3,000
Selection Criteria: Academic strength and
primary major at the time of application in one of the
following:
- College of Business
- College of Communication
- College of Education
- College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
- Exploratory Studies
- Engineering Dual Degree Program
- Pre-law and Pre-med Programs
Notification: Award letters are sent from the
Office of Financial Aid by mid-March.
Renewable? Yes, as long as the student
maintains the renewal criteria outlined in the scholarship
offer.
Jordan College of the Arts (JCA) Audition Award
~ Show Information
To Apply: In addition to the Application
for Freshman Admission and Scholarship (or the Common
Application), the JCA supplemental application and an audition (or
interview) are required.
Application Deadline: Students
are encouraged to apply for admission and audition early for best
opportunity.
Award Amounts: Vary based on performance
ability and departmental needs.
Selection Criteria: Determined by the
department based on the audition (or interview).
Notification: Award letters are sent from the
auditioning department by mid-March.
Notes: Audition awards are only available to
students majoring within JCA - School of Music; Departments of
Dance, Theatre and Arts Administration; and the Arts Program.
Dr. John Morton-Finney Leadership Program

Freshman Admission and Scholarships (or Common
Application).
Application Deadline: November
1
Award Amounts: Range from $1,000 to $12,000
Selection Criteria: In addition to academic
strength, applicants must demonstrate commitment and actions to
promote diversity through high school and community activities.
Notification: Award letters are sent from the
Office of Financial Aid by mid-March.
Renewable? Yes, as long as the student
maintains the renewal criteria outlined in the scholarship
offer.
Athletic Grant in Aid

Award Amounts: Vary based on performance
ability and the needs of the team.
Selection Criteria: Determined by the
coach.
Notes: Awards are made in thirteen NCAA
Division I athletic programs. Men's football, men's track and
field, women's track and field and women's swimming are
non-scholarship programs.
Center for Faith and Vocation (CFV) Freshman Scholars Program

To Apply: In addition to the Application
for Freshman Admission and Scholarships (or Common
Application), a separate application is required. The application
is available at www.butler.edu/faith-vocation/scholarships.
Application Deadline: November
1 for admission application, December 15 for CFV Scholarship
Application
Award Amounts: $4,000
Selection Criteria: Ideal candidates should be
interested in one or more of the following:
- Service to others or social justice activism
- Interfaith programs
- Majoring or minoring in religion
- Entering a religious vocation, such as ordained ministry,
theology or faith-based activism
- Reflecting about how you and others are called to lives of
purpose, meaning and contribution
Notification: Award letters are sent from the
Center for Faith and Vocation by mid-March.
Renewable? Yes, as long as the student
maintains the renewal criteria outlined in the scholarship
offer.
Edward W. Sawyer, Disciples of Christ Scholarship

To Apply: In addition to the Application
for Freshman Admission and Scholarships (or Common
Application), a separate application is required. Complete and mail
the application to the Office of Financial Aid.
Edward W. Sawyer - Disciples of Christ Scholarship Application

Application Deadline: February 1, for both
admission and Sawyer scholarship application
Award Amounts: Range from $1,000 to $3,000
Selection Criteria:
- Must be a member of the Christian Church (Disciples of
Christ)
- Rank in the top ten percent of your high school class
- Have a composite SAT score of 1100 or higher or ACT of 24 or
higher at the time of admission
- Demonstrate school, community, and church leadership
Notification: Award letters are sent from the
Office of Financial Aid by mid-March.
Renewable? Yes, as long as the student
maintains the renewal criteria outlined in the scholarship
offer.
Notes: Applicants affiliated with denominations
other than the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) will
not be considered for this scholarship. Please see a list of
