Tuition Exchange

The Tuition Exchange is a reciprocal scholarship program for children and other family members of faculty and staff employed at over 580 participating institutions. General information regarding the exchange and a list of participating institutions can be found at The Tuition Exchange Website.

Student’s whose parent(s) work for an institution that is a member of the Tuition Exchange may apply for a Tuition Exchange Award.

To be considered for a Tuition Exchange Scholarship, your application must be received by the Office of Financial Aid by January 15th of the application year. To receive a Tuition Exchange award at Butler the student must be:

  • approved as an export from his/her parent's employing institution.
  • accepted for admission at Butler University for an undergraduate degree by January 15th of the year enrollment will begin.
  • accepted by Butler University for Tuition Exchange - we are limited in the number of Tuition Exchange awards we grant each year.

Selection for Tuition Exchange

Information for all admitted Tuition Exchange applicants will be gathered from the Office of Admission after the January 15 deadline.

Selection will be made based on the student's academic strength and the availability of Tuition Exchange scholarship positions at Butler University for that academic year. With the College of Pharmacy being our most competitive program at Butler University there is limited space and stronger criteria for admission. Therefore, Tuition Exchange is currently not available for students applying for the pre-pharmacy program. We will keep applications received should the availability status change.

Selected students will be notified of their eligibility to participate in the Tuition Exchange Program for the upcoming academic year on or about February 15. An acceptance form will be sent to each student. This form must be signed and returned to the Office of Financial Aid before the scholarship will be credited to the student’s account. The scholarship will credit to the student’s account once the student has registered and will appear as a credit on the tuition bill. A Tuition Exchange fee of $50.00 will be charged to the student’s account each year the student participates in the Tuition Exchange Program.

Limits of the Tuition Exchange Award

Each student is eligible for up to 8 semesters (4 years) of Tuition Exchange as determined by their grade level when entering the university. Eligibility extends to the first 4 years of an undergraduate program. Students who will participate in programs that exceed 4 years may seek need-based assistance for those additional years of attendance.

Tuition Exchange is available for full time (12 or more credit hours per semester), undergraduate enrollment for the academic year only at Butler University. You may not receive Tuition Exchange for summer enrollment, study abroad, or for enrollement less than full time.

Tuition Exchange awards must be coordinated with all other financial aid the student receives. Tuition Exchange supersedes all other awards given by Butler University. Merit awards from Butler University will be retained in name only if the student receives Tuition Exchange. In addition, awards you receive from programs outside the university may affect the amount of your award. These programs include the Indiana state grants, Federal Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG), Federal SMART Grant and tuition-specific scholarships from any other source. One half of the Federal Pell Grant will be applied to the tuition costs as well.

Renewal

Annual Tuition Exchange offers require continued eligibility as an export by the parent's employing institution by January 31 of each year.

Students must maintain satisfactory academic progress toward their degrees as specified for their major in the Butler University Bulletin.
