Days Of Religious Observance

12/06 Saint Nicholas Day (Orthodox Christian): Celebration of the birth of Saint Nicolas, patron saint of children and role model for gift giving. Many churches named for this saint who is also the Dutch version of Santa Claus. 
12/12 Feast Day, Our Lady of Guadalupe (Catholic): Honoring of a legendary appearance of the Virgin Mary     near Mexico City in 1531 c.e.
12/17-12/24 Hannukah (Jewish): Festival of Lights. It commemorates the Maccabean recapture and rededication of the Jerusalem Temple in 165-164 b.c.e. Special readings and praise songs focus on liberty and freedom. The eight candle Menorah is lighted.
12/21 Solstice (Christian and Wicca): Season of preparation for the Nativity of Christ.
12/25 Christmas (Christian): Time of remembering the execution of Teg Bahadur by the Moghul Emperor in India.
12/26 Zarathosht Diso: Anniversary of the Death of Prophet Zarathushtra.
