Camp will take place Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4
p.m. The camp is available to students entering grades 3-12 in
the Fall of 2013. Children will be grouped by ages. Camp will
be held on the Butler Campus each day, in Jordan Hall,
3rd floor, JH304.

Camp Teachers & Guests
Butler University's Creative Writing Camp offers an intensive
and entertaining week of workshops to help young writers develop
their talent and passion for the literary arts. Campers will
converse and work with accomplished novelists, poets, editors and
teachers of writing, such as:
- Dan Barden, MFA, novelist and essayist, Professor of
English at Butler University
- Hilene Flanzbaum, PH.D., Professor of English at Butler
University
- Susan Neville, MFA, author of fiction and
non-fiction, Professor of English at Butler University
- Chris Forhan, MFA, poet and author of Modern and Contemporary
Poetry, Associate Professor of English at Butler
University
- Alessandra Lynch, MFA, poet and Adjunct Professor at Butler
University
- Lou Harry, Indianapolis Business Journal's Arts &
Entertainment Editor, playwright, novelist, whatever-ist.
- Mindy Dunn, MFA, poet and Adjunct Professor at Butler

Highlights of Butler University Creative Writing Camp 2013
- College student mentors
- Daily visits from guest writers
- Field trip to the Indianapolis Museum of Art
Campers will attend entertaining, lively workshops designed
to inspire young writers. Students will write and read stories,
plays, screenplays, poetry, personal narratives, song lyrics, and
experimental pieces, experiencing the power of the literary
imagination while developing language skills.
The week also includes forums on the birth of ideas, the
creative art of advertising, free writing, nonsense verse, haiku,
abstract and concrete poetry. Campers will also
have lunch meeting with small groups of peers to design
and publish a creative web page and E-zine, as well as daily
workshops in the computer labs, and writing related computer
instruction.
The camp will be capped with the presentation of certificates,
an open microphone reading in Holcomb Gardens (weather permitting),
a pizza party and ice cream (families welcome). Throughout the
camp, students will be working with professors and college student
mentors to create a website where work from the camp will be
displayed and enjoyed by participants and families.
2013 Camp Cost (due at the time of registration):
- $250 for one week, Session I OR Session
II
- $450 for both weeks, Session I and Session II (discounted)

Refund Policy:
Prior to June 1 - Campers withdrawing from camp will be
given a refund less a 20% admin fee
After June 1 - No camp refunds will be
given
