3 hours - EN185: Intro. to the Discipline of English
9 hours - Inquiries in Literary and Cultural History
(three of four: EN245, EN246, EN265, EN266)

Junior/Senior Years
3 hours - EN321 or 322: World Literature 1 or 2
3 hours - One 300/400-level course in Language

Rhetoric or Literary Criticism
3 hours - 300-level course in Literary and Cultural History*
9 hours - Three additional 300-level literature courses
3 hours - EN390: Research Seminar

Senior Year

3 hours - 400-level Seminar
3 hours - EN450 Senior Essay

*Literary and Cultural History Requirement

Students are required to take three of the four courses in the Literary and Cultural History sequence - (EN245, EN246, EN265 and EN266).

Students will take an upper-level course in the fourth area that they do not cover at the 200-level.

In order to track this requirement, courses that meet the Literary and Cultural History Requirement will be designated in this way:

  • A1 equivalent to EN245, focusing primarily on American literature up to the Civil War
  • A2 equivalent to EN246, focusing primarily on American literature after the Civil War
  • B1 equivalent to EN265, focusing primarily on British Literature before 1800
  • B2 equivalent to EN266, focusing primarily on British Literature after 1800
