Service. Service learning is about extending classrooms into local communities to learn about yourself and your relationship to others through service. Through Butler's core curriculum, every student participates in a community-engaged learning course. Pharmacy students gain practical experience and learn about human dignity and humility by providing patient counseling to the medically underserved, while students in Jordan College of the Arts explore their identity as artists while they teach the arts to thousands of young people in Indianapolis. These powerful experiences, along with many others, inspire students to discover meaning and continue giving back to their community on a regular basis-while at Butler and after graduation.

Impact. Hands-on learning. Discernment. Internships. Real-world experience. It doesn't matter what you call it - what matters is that Butler students get it. In their first year, our College of Education students become immersed in K-12 classrooms. Students in our College of Business are required to conduct two internships prior to graduation, and, in our College of Communication, students produce two weekly television shows. The list of experiential learning opportunities you'll find at Butler goes on, which is one of many reasons why Butler boasts a 94 percent placement rate for graduates, including 19 percent who go on to graduate or professional school.

Discovery. At Butler, students are encouraged to discover life beyond borders through short- and long-term study abroad opportunities. Through both our affiliation with the Institute for Study Abroad and our own programs, including the faculty-led Global Adventures in the Liberal Arts, Butler students can access academic and personal support services while exploring cultures around the globe. Just last year, more than 300 students participated in study abroad experiences that helped prepare them for success in a multicultural workforce and global society.

Family. At Butler, we use the term "Butler Family" a lot. That's because all students, families, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends take great pride in caring for and serving others. Our top priority is to help students succeed, both in and out of the classroom. You're not just a number at Butler. With an average class size of 18, Butler students get the attention they need and the ability to build lasting relationships with their professors.
