Mission
The Center for Urban Ecology (CUE) builds upon a solid
history of student-faculty research and community service to foster
and support the exploration and stewardship of the urban ecosystems
of Indianapolis. To this end, the center operates with a foundation
in the biological sciences to facilitate cooperative research
projects among Butler undergraduate students, faculty, Indianapolis
Public Schools, and other community partners with the primary goal
of providing experiential learning opportunities for students.
Core Objectives
-
To broaden student perspectives and appreciation of science
through research and other experiential learning opportunities.
-
To encourage stewardship of urban ecosystems and promote k-12
science education through programming with Indianapolis Public
Schools and collaborative projects with campus and community
partners.
-
To enhance student involvement in the greater Indianapolis
community and provide students with experiences that will help them
to clarify their career goals and values as active citizens.
- To provide an organizational framework to support and enhance
the current research activities and interests of Butler faculty and
students in the area of urban ecology.
