Medication Disposal
According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), proper
disposal of old medications should be handled as follows:
- Follow any guidelines listed on the medication label
- Do not flush medications down the toilet unless specifically
told to do so
- If no instructions are listed, take the medications out of the
original container, mix them with an undesirable substance such as
kitty litter or old coffee grounds, and place them in a sealable
container to be thrown into your regular trash
- Scratch out all identifying information from your medication
bottles before throwing them into the trash
