The String Scholars camp is a unique camp for strings students on the beautiful campus of Butler University. This camp is open to students ages 12-17 or who are in rising grades 7-12. No audition is required; all levels are welcome, although it is recommended that participants have at least one year of prior study on their instrument. A short placement audition will be held on the first day of camp. We expect to have at least two orchestras, based on ability. Campers need to provide their own instrument.

The String Scholars camp features: daily orchestra rehearsals and finale concert with Richard Auldon Clark, conductor of the Butler Symphony Orchestra; daily sectionals and technique class with Butler faculty and music majors; other typical college music classes such as music theory and electives. Additional classes typically include drumming, dance, and keyboard. Special sessions will be held on topics of college readiness and access, including how to prepare for an audition, choosing a major or a college, financial aid, career paths in music, and more...

Housing is provided in Butler University's ResCo dorm, which is air-conditioned. Dorm check-in is 4:30-6:00 on Sunday evening; check-out is Thursday evening. Commuters arrive by 9:00 a.m. each day and may be picked up at 5:30p.m. Early drop-off is also available. On Sunday, all campers, including commuters, should plan to attend sessions from 6:00-9:00pm. Applications must be postmarked by June 1 for residential campers. Late applications may be accepted on the basis of available space.
