Jazz Camp

July 14-19, 2013: Rising grades 7-12 or ages 12-17
(Sunday, July 14, 6pm-9pm; Monday, July 15 through Friday July 19, 9am-5:30pm)

This weeklong jazz camp provides the opportunity for youth in rising grades 7-12 to participate in a fun and intense jazz-learning experience under the direction of professional staff led by Matt Pivec, director of jazz studies at Butler University.  The faculty will include local jazz professionals.  Sessions may include combo rehearsals, big band rehearsals, jazz improvisation, jazz history and instrument-specific master classes.  The week culminates with a concert on Friday featuring all of the campers.

No audition is required for admission to camp; all levels are welcome, although it is strongly recommended that participants have at least one year of prior study on their instrument. A short placement audition will be held on the first day of camp (Sunday).   Campers should provide their own instrument.  Guitarists should bring their own amp.

Camp begins on Sunday July 14; all campers should attend from 6:00-9:00pm. Pizza will be provided.
