BassButler Bass Camp will feature David Murray, professor of bass at Butler University, and the Bad Boyz of Double Bass Quartet - David Murray, Anthony Stoops, Volkan Orhon, and Paul Sharpe; with Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra associate principal bass Robert Goodlett.  Camp will include: daily stretching and movement; classes on bass technique; master classes; bass chamber ensembles; and private lesson(s) with camp faculty.  Finale concert will feature all campers.

This camp is open to students ages 12-21. No audition is required; all levels are welcome, although it is recommended that participants have at least one year of prior study. A short placement audition may be held on the first day of camp.  Please be ready to play a one to three minute solo or etude.

Housing is provided in Butler University's ResCo dorm, which is air-conditioned. Dorm check-in is 4:30-6:00 on Monday evening; check-out is noon on Saturday. It is generally recommended that 7th graders attend as commuter students.   On Monday, all campers, including commuters, should plan to attend from 6:00-9:00pm.  Campers should provide their own instrument.

Applications must be postmarked by May 15 for residential campers; full payment due by June 1. Late applications may be accepted on the basis of available space.

Tentative Schedule for 2013

  • Monday, June 17, 6:00-9:00pm:   ALL campers attend for orientation, scheduling, placement, get-acquainted activities, and group ensemble sessions.
  • Tuesday, June 18; Wednesday, June 19; and Thursday, June 20:  9:00-5:30pm:  ALL campers follow daily schedule of classes.  Lunch included for commuter campers.  For residential campers, there will be supervised evening activities; 3 meals/day included in tuition.
  • Friday, June 21, 9:00am-9:00pm:   ALL campers follow daily schedule PLUS stay for dinner (no additional charge) and evening guest artist concert.  
  • Saturday, June 22, 9:00am-noon:  ALL campers report at 9:00am. Finale recital begins at 11:00am (tentative).  Camp ends at the conclusion of the recital.
