College of Communication

Butler University's College of Communication prepares students for success in our digital and global society.  Students will develop the ability to analyze and synthesize human and mediated communication, and learn to speak, write, and create responsible messages across dynamic communication contexts and digital media platforms. Outstanding faculty who are active scholars and leading professionals will deliver programs of instruction in several new as well as traditional areas. The curriculum will reflect the centrality of communication as a basic human right and is designed to prepare graduates to excel in their chosen professional careers and post-graduate studies.

Offering a communication centered curriculum, the College provides students the opportunities to take courses in video and audio production; web design; music business; film and media studies; rhetorical criticism and theory; argumentation; print, broadcast, & online journalism; media literacy; advertising; public relations; interpersonal, small group and organizational communication; health communication; sign language; and communication disorders. These courses are offered in six program areas:
