Summary of the Ceremony
Length of ceremony
Approximately two and a half-hours.
Procession
The academic procession will start promptly at 10:00 a.m. In
preparation for the processional, access to the main gym will be
greatly reduced at 9:30 a.m. Guests are encouraged to visit
the restrooms and concessions prior to this time and return to
their seats to see the faculty and student processional. At
10:00 a.m. members of the graduating class will process into Hinkle
Fieldhouse and be seated upon reaching the reserved area. They will
stand for the National Anthem. Men will remove their caps for the
National Anthem and put them on immediately after.
Order of the Degree Conferral
- Master's Degrees
- Doctoral Degrees
- Associate Degrees
- Bachelors Degrees in liberal arts and sciences, education,
business administration, pharmacy and health sciences, arts and
communication.
Ceremony Procedure
The graduates will be asked to stand and be presented to the
president of the university for the conferral of their degrees. At
this point, it is appropriate for graduating students receiving
their first degree to change their tassel from the right side to
the left side of their cap. Candidates will be ushered to the stage
where the President will present the degrees while the deans read
the names, and where appropriate, Latin, and/or departmental
honors. Graduates walk across the stage, receive their diplomas,
and return to their seats in the reserved areas.
