Workshop Information for School Counseling Students
As a requirement of the School Counseling
program, students must take 6 hours of workshop credit.
4 of these 6 hours are required workshops.
Assisting Grieving Children & Families (offered each
semester- must be taken fall, spring or summer of Year 2)
Three Required School Counseling Workshop Series:
This series runs each fall and will be held on your regular class
night from 7-9:30 pm in year 3 opposite an early internship section
to enable you to be on campus one night per week. Those on
the regular track should plan to take this series in year 3.
Fast trackers will need to take the series in year 2 and be on
campus twice a week for classes. The series runs with each of
the three workshops meeting 5 times in 5 weeks and the series
runs through the full fall semester.
The three workshops in this series are:
Post-Secondary Planning for School Counselors
Crisis & Trauma in Schools
Mental Health Issues for School Counselors
In addition, counseling students must pick two elective workshops
to complete at some point in the program of their choosing.
Each semester, including Summer I and Summer II, there will be a
variety of workshop course offerings. The workshops page lists the available
workshops each semester.
You are able to register for workshop courses prior to the start
of the semester on your my.butler.edu account just as you would a
regular course. To enroll after the start of the semester,
please see the Enrollment Procedures page.
