METL Welcome

Butler University has a long history of serving teachers seeking a Masters of Science in Education. Many teachers in the Indianapolis area are graduates of our program and have been a major influence in educational matters both at the local and state levels.

The METL program offers students flexibility and personal control. With the guidance of their advisor, students select courses, workshops, and independent study experiences in their areas of interest. The program culminates in a project designed and executed by the student that will improve education in his or her school or district or will influence a state issue for positive progress and change. Students who wish to pursue National Board Certification are encouraged to do so. Students may also choose to use their work to professionalize their teaching license.

The METL program is based on the College of Education's four core values: the appreciation of diversity and similarity; the excitement of teaching, learning, and mentoring; the challenge of integrated theory, practice, and collaboration; and the strength of integrity and responsibility. We look for students who share these values as they begin their work with us and who seek to strengthen their expression of those values in their teaching and leadership.
