The Experiential Program for Preparing School Principals (EPPSP) began in January 1982 as a Lilly Endowment initiative. Dr. Joseph Nygaard was the first Director of EPPSP. Innovative and experience-based, this master's degree program combines hands-on opportunities with academic rigor. Graduates prepare for the many challenges facing school principals by demonstrating proficiency and by practicing leadership skills in school and cohort contexts. To date, approximately 500 people have successfully completed the EPPSP program. Alumni Directory/Cohorts Show Information

Alumni Directory/Cohorts

Butler University's Experiential Program for Preparing School Principals (EPPSP) enables all graduate students to be a part of a cohort. Each cohort is identified by a Group number and consists of approximately 25 students. Being part of a cohort means:

  • The cohort model is an engaging, collaborative learning process. Each cohort is a community in which students are valued for their experiences. Students "co-create" selected learning experiences.
  • Students are working professionals who study with a cohort of their peers. Each student cohort is carefully selected to assure wide variety and diversity.
  • You will always be identified with the cohort group you start the program with and cohort members will have a special means of identifying one another. The networking and field experiences have been essential components of the EPPSP experience.
  • Everyone in your cohort will begin the program in an orientation session held immediately prior to the beginning of spring semester classes.
  • You can count on the classes you need being offered on the same night, two nights a week for two years from 7:00 - 9:30 PM . Summer classes meet twice a week for six weeks at usually from 6:30 - 9:30 PM.
