School Counseling Program
Thank you for your interest in the Butler University School
Counseling program. Butler University has been preparing
professional school counselors for more than four decades and our
graduates can be found locally in the greater Indianapolis area,
throughout the Hoosier State, and beyond.
In 1996 Butler University received a major, three-year
(1996-1999) grant from the Lilly Foundation that enabled us to
restructure the master's degree program, establish a Counselor
Education Resource Center in Room 246H Jordan Hall, and support
renewal efforts of practicing school counselors throughout the
state. In November of 1998 this program became CACREP (Council for
the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs)
accredited, one of only three school counseling programs in Indiana
to achieve this nationwide accreditation. We went through
re-accreditation in 2005 and have adopted State of Indiana
Standards and The American School Counseling Association standards
into our program.
Please know that our counselor education faculty is committed to
respecting diversity and similarity within ourselves, our graduate
students, and the K-12 students our graduates are being prepared to
serve. We encourage, promote, and respect diversity in the
counselor education curriculum and in the knowledge, skills and
attitudes expected of our graduate students and alumni.
