Internships
You will have a lot of ink on your
resume before you graduate.
Each business student is required to complete two internships
for academic credit. Two internships are required and are a
formal part of the curriculum for academic credit. By
contrast, most business schools don't even require one internship
as a graduation requirement. Student grades are determined by
employer evaluations and written reports that are submitted to a
professor. The internships are 300 hours in length and
require junior standing.
We have a full-time staff to assist within the department that
helps students find job opportunities. However, students must
apply, seek interviews and pursue the internship on their
own. As you might expect, internships give students an
advantage over the competition when it comes to looking for
full-time employment upon graduation.
The College of Business has a remarkable network of internship
companies that expands every year. We work with a network of
over 2000 internship employers and are one of the top universities
from which Johnson & Johnson recruits interns for its
Leadership Development Programs.
Students have interned with such companies as BKD, Delta Faucet,
Johnson & Johnson, Merrill Lynch, Northwestern Mutual,
OneAmerica, PwC and Roche Diagnostics. To make sure we have the
best internship fit for our students, we also work with nonprofit
organizations such as the Children's Museum of Indianapolis and the
Arthritis Foundation and smaller, entrepreneurial companies.
Butler's campus is located just minutes from downtown Indianapolis,
and the internship opportunities are vast. In addition, many
students complete internships close to home and across the
globe.
My internships with Pricewaterhouse Coopers and the White
House in Washington D.C. allowed me to experience real world
challenges and skills in research and accounting systems. Thanks to
the Career Development Program and my career mentor's hard work, I
was able to acquire my internship experiences, and ultimately my
career path.

Interning in Washington D.C. for the consulting firm
KSC&W allowed me to experience a variety of jobs at all levels
of the firm. My responsibilities included researching
legislation, drafting letters to Congress, covering client and Hill
meetings, and attending fundraisers and meet-and greet events with
members of Congress. Leaving Butler, I felt prepared for the
business world.
