College of Business - Real Life. Real Business.

CollaborativeCollaborative Partnerships

Real life, real business brings students, faculty, alumni, and businesses together in mutually-beneficial partnerships.  We collaborate with businesses on cases and projects that help the organizations grow and become more profitable and, in turn, result in unique learning opportunities for students.  Students partner with faculty and career mentors who guide them through their educational journey, resulting in relationships that often last a lifetime.

  • The College of Business works with a network of over 2000 internship employers. In addition to its vast network of employers in Indiana, the College of Business works with a growing list of regional and national employers. In the 2008-2009 academic year, student interns were placed into 221 companies, stretching from Indianapolis to Taiwan. The internship program allows companies to preview and recruit top talent, while the students gain valuable experience.

  • Area businesses partner with the MBA program in the Gateway Experience and Capstone Experience courses. Organizations frequently request assistance with business problems they are facing through live cases and projects and some executives co-teach courses with business faculty. This provides businesses with premiere access to talent, fresh insight on business problems, and includes outcome ownership. Recent Gateway and Capstone partners have included Steak 'n Shake, HH Gregg, Aero Technologies, Adidas, Rolls Royce and Second Helpings.

  • Graduate students and faculty partner each year with Ice Miller and Inside Indiana Business on the annual CEO Survey The State of Our Business - A Perspective from Top Executives. The survey provides insight and understanding about how business leaders in Indiana feel about their companies, their challenges and what can make Indiana a great place to do business.

  • Pat Rondeau, Assistant Professor of MIS, developed a classroom collaboration with a business connected with the Butler Business Accelerator. Students developed a website for Royal Food Products that is live and in use. The President of Royal Foods expressed his enjoyment in working with the students and was pleased with the end product. Royal Foods is supporting additional research by Dr. Rondeau on business-to-business website effectiveness. The project helped Dr. Rondeau re-balance his perspective on what material is most important to emphasize to his students.

  • Butler University has an extensive, active alumni network. Alumni continually reconnect with the College of Business and volunteer their time in the classroom. Alumni mentor students, conduct mock interviews, participate in advisory boards, guest lecture in the classroom, interview scholarship candidates and more. Alumni bring their businesses to the Butler Business Accelerator for consulting expertise and ask for student and faculty guidance with live cases and projects.

  • Executive-in-Residence and career mentor Marv Recht, formerly with General Motors, offers his students and mentees a "lifetime guarantee." At any time in their career, they can come back to Marv for career development and placement assistance. And many do.

  • The Butler Business Accelerator has worked with 19 clients in Central Indiana since its inception and has completed a total of 37 client projects. The Accelerator works with teams of consultants, faculty and students for client projects and has been successful in helping its clients grow. One company experienced a 35 percent increase in sales, resulting in a four-fold increase in free cash flow within one year. Another company's first quarter sales increased by 25 percent after the Accelerator assisted management in constructing an annual, growth-focused profit plan. A third client experienced an annual treasury savings of $35,000 and over $1 million in inventory reduction opportunities were revealed to a fourth client.

  • The Butler Business Accelerator has developed a large Alliance Partner Network that includes financial institutions, law firms and private contractors. These experts provide valuable strategic input to Accelerator clients throughout the consulting process.
