Department Information
Welcome!
Thank you for your interest in the chemistry program at Butler
University and your visit to our website. I think Butler is a great
place to study chemistry, to obtain a solid liberal education, and
to spend your college years. At Butler University, we have:
- a beautiful campus with a diverse student body studying
in six different colleges, truly a university environment with
many cultural and educational opportunities;
- excellent facilities in the chemistry department (laboratories,
instrumentation, and computer systems) along with a curriculum
which is approved by the American Chemical Society. This allows us
to offer opportunities for independent study, funded summer
research, and internships;
- a faculty dedicated to working with undergraduate students and
involving them in the excitement of chemistry along with a quality
student body that fuels our program (about 120 majors spread over
four years);
- chemistry majors planning to use their degrees to gain entrance
into graduate schools, to prepare for professional schools
(medical, dental, optometry, veterinary, etc.), to enter the
teaching profession, to find employment in industry, or to mix
their chemistry major with other disciplines (environmental,
journalism, law, business, etc.);
- chemistry scholarships that supplement the University
Scholarship program.
Please browse our website; however, your webpage visit can only
do so much. I invite you to visit campus, sit in on a few classes,
and see how we work. If you have any questions or I can help with a
visit, please call at (317) 940-9806 (locally) or 1 (800) 368-6852
(toll-free, ask for chemistry). I certainly hope that Butler will
play a part in your future education.
Best regards,
Stacy O'Reilly, Ph.D.
