Professional and Institutional Memberships

 

The Center for Academic Technology maintains several professional and institutional memberships for the benefit of faculty and staff.

 

 EDUCAUSE

EDUCAUSE is a professional organization that supports the use of information technology at every level within higher education.  EDUCAUSE programs and services focus on analysis, advocacy, community building, professional development, and knowledge creation to support the transformative role that IT can play in higher education.  A comprehensive range of resources, networking opportunities, and information services are available to all interested employees at member organizations including national and regional conferences, webinars, and print and electronic publications.

ELI

The EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative (ELI) provides an emphasis on learning, learning principles and practices, and the use of learning technologies to support it.  They endeavor to move beyond infrastructure as they aspire to the mission of advancing learning through IT innovation, with learners and successful learning as the strategic focus.

The benefits of an institutional ELI membership include:

  • Full access to all ELI programs and resources on learners, learning principles and practices, and learning technologies
  • Discounted registration for face-to-face and online ELI events 
  • Free access to 12+ webinars with presentations on topics like assessment of student learning, online and blended teaching and learning, and learning analytics
  • Immediate access to Seeking Evidence of Impact case studies, briefs and white papers to keep informed on emerging trends
  • A 10% registration discount for all institutional attendees at the Learning Technology Leadership program
  • A chance to engage, share, and gather solutions from colleagues in the ELI Community Forum

  NITLE

The National Institute for Technology in Liberal Education (NITLE) is a non-profit initiative created to help liberal arts colleges and universities unite and incorporate inquiry, pedagogy, and technology into higher education. They strive to enrich undergraduate education and strengthen the liberal arts tradition. NITLE is the leading organization for liberal arts colleges and universities; their mission is to engage students in learning experiences that are unique to liberal education provides and to use technology strategically to advance the liberal arts mission. They provide online and face to face opportunities through their Academic Commons, Shared Academics, Shared Practice, and Shared Libraries programs.

Sloan

The Sloan Consortium is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization is a professional society dedicated to quality online learning initiatives and advancing eLearning into mainstream higher education through building community.  All Butler University faculty, staff and students can create an account and get access to many of the resources The Sloan Consortium has to offer.

Our institutional membership to The Sloan Consortium provides:

  • access and discounts to resources dedicated to quality online learning
  • access to research, effective practices, practitioner documents and survey reports
  • discounts to online faculty development workshops and face to face conferences as well as other benefits.

To create an individual account:

  1. Visit http://sloanconsortium.org/user/register to create a free user account.
  2. Once you complete your registration, you will be sent an e-mail and asked to verify your account.
  3. Once logged in, click on your username in the upper right hand corner of the home page. You will be brought to your "My Account" page. Click on "Edit Profile" to affiliate your account. Please enter your name and organization in the spaces provided. (Please make sure the organization name you type in matches the one listed on the  membership list.)
  4. The system will now recognize you as a member. Go to the member resources page for details on your membership benefits such as free webinars and access to the JALN.

I already have a user account. How do I make sure I am affiliated with my institution?

  1. Please log-in to www.sloanconsortium.org.
  2. Once logged in, click on your username in the upper right hand corner of the home page. You will be brought to your "My Account" page. Click on "Edit Profile" to affiliate your account. Add your organization name in the space provided. Please make sure the organization name you type in matches the one listed on the  membership list.
  3. The system will now recognize you as a member. Go to the member resources page for details on your membership benefits such as free webinars and access to the JALN.

 

 TLT

The Teaching and Learning with Technology Group is a non-profit organization which seeks to provide institutions with opportunities to work with other faculty, staff and administrators who hold similar views on teaching and learning and through collaboration wish to effect change in the field of teaching and learning.  Our membership includes individual memberships for all faculty and staff at Butler University.

Our institutional membership to the TLT Group provides:

  • access to learning online via weekly webcasts and workshops, 
  • access to Members Only resources
  • discounts on TLT Group services and workshops
  • free attendance at 3-4 workshops per year

 

USDLA

Butler University also maintains a membership to the United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA), a non-profit organization which promotes the development and application of distance learning for education and training.

Access to one-time use of USDLA electronic mail list for USDLA approved application

  • E-delivery of USDLA News Alerts
  • Quarterly e-delivery of USDLA Newsletter
  • Discounts for all USDLA sponsored events including Conferences, National Policy Forums and Distance Learning Meetings
  • Benefits of national legislative representation from USDLA
